ART DUMP!! #2

This update will just be the videos from my first semester of second year animation. A few animations and a leica reel

Animations:
Weight Lift and Toss
This animation was a lot of fun and I enjoyed doing it a lot. It's just too bad that I ran out of time and wasn't able to finish it completely. Still I think it's going in the right direction and I think I'm going to do another one that I can take further. Possibly even over this summer. Who knows.

Wave - Boat - Sack
This was the first animation that I did for second year. I'm really happy with how it turned out except for the fact that it was shot really light. Maybe if I find the time I'll reshoot it but I haven't decided if it's worth it yet.

Walk / Run
Finally we have the walk and run. Over all I'm pretty happy with these two animations. I like how 3D the woman looks and how bouncy the man is. I really want to do a new walk/run over this summer for my demo reel, so hopefully you'll be seeing stuff from that soon.

Leica Reel
This was a leica reel that I made for a story that I created. It's based off the phrase "I want that". Basically I wanted to do the story of a little boy who wants candy while shopping with his mother but she wont let him. So the little boy throws a tantrum in order to get what he wants. Expect I thought I'd put a twist on it and make it a husband and wife and instead of it been candy the husband wants beer. Overall I'm pretty happy with how the Leica came out and I'm very much looking forward to making another one and improving my story telling skills.

Well that's it for this post. Quick and straight to the point. Next post will be more art, including the character designs for these animations. Hope you all enjoyed them. Later!

ART DUMP!! #1

So we'll start things off with some doodles from my sketch book that I felt were worth putting more effort into

I like this one a lot cause it reminds of of the art from 101 Dalmatians... This was just a doodle from my head one day but I'm really happy with how it came out.
This one was inspired while watching a T.V. show.
This one I really like mostly because it is such a different style to what I usually draw in but i really like it. I may try to incorporate more of this style into my later work
The following one came about when my roommate Joe was telling me about the radio host The Wolfman while listening to the song 'Clap For The Wolfman' by The Guess Who. This was the image I got in my head and I just had to draw it.
This is just a weird doodle... iunno.

The next two are concept tonal pieces I did for a painting I was going to do. They were done in my sketchbook using graphite powder. I love that stuff it is so quick and easy to throw down lights and darks. Although it can get pretty messy if you're not careful...
The following piece was a quick study I did in my sketchbook of a skull and a candle using gouache paint.
The next bunch is just a tone cafe sketches from my sketchbook. Some are from the Go-Train, some are from class and some are just from random places like the mall or cafeteria.
And just for the hell of it here's some drawings of hands and feet I had to do in my first year of animation.
Then to finish it off we got just a page from my sketchbook of random doodles from the summer.
Anyway that's it for this post. I'm currently in the process of colouring some more stuff for my next post which will be another large art dump. That should be pretty soon. That will consist of most of my work from my first semester of my second year of animation. Well till then have a good one.

A Few More Animations

Wow it's been a while. Well I'm a couple weeks into my second semester and so far it's pretty fun. Enough chit-chat though here's some animations.

Head Rotation:
So here we have Tarzan (hopefully you could recognize him) one of my very favorite characters who was beautifully animated by the amazing Glen Keane. If you don't know Glen Keane or haven't visited his blog do so and be prepared to be blown away by awesomeness. Let me tell you one thing about Tarzan, his dreads are insane to do a rotation of. I nearly killed myself trying to do it. I think in the end it all came out pretty good though. The expression change and him saying meow was kinda rushed cause I spent so much time on the rotation part of it but meh I'm happy with the rotation at least.
video

Animal Walk:
Next up we have an otter. Yes in case you couldn't tell it's supposed to be a walk cycle of an otter. I am actually pretty happy with how this one turned out. I don't remember too much from back when I animated it so I assume it all went pretty smoothly. On a random note, I like the head bob haha, it looks like he is bobbing his head to music. Good times.
video

That's all for this post. Hopefully you all enjoyed seeing these animations. The next post will be some more drawings from last year and then it's finally on to my new stuff, which I can't wait to start posting. I just finished a character design and a pan layout that I am really happy with. Well anyway I'm off, later!

Oldies But Goodies

Hey everybody well so far I'm keeping up on posting once a week so that's good. We'll see how long this lasts for. Kinda dreading this coming week of school. So much work to be done and so little time. But I figured I'd just quickly post up some really old stuff before I disappear into the studio for the next week.

First up we have a very very old drawing but I completely love it. This is a drawing I did way back in grade 12, so 2004 I suppose. It is pretty large, I think around 16"x32" or something like that, I can't really remember. It is completely shaded in graphite pencil. It took me so long to do and I still feel like even today it's one of the best drawings I've ever done. Although there are little things I would still like to change about it knowing what I know artistically now. Overall though I still think it holds up. As for the content of the drawing I really like that as well. There is something almost peaceful about it. She looks like she is just completely in her own world with those headphones on and nothing can bother her. She is just completely relaxed. Looking at this makes me feel like that because that's how I feel when I've got my headphones on sometimes. I could go on and on about this drawing but I think I'll just stop with that.

Next up is a self portrait that I did a while ago, I think maybe my first year of collage. I think it conveys pretty much what I was going for. It was very different from all the other self portraits I did and just felt more right. It feels like more than a self portrait to me though and I think that's why I like it so much. So anyway that's that.

Lastly for today I give you a sketch I did a couple of years ago of my buddy Tyler. Surf's Up was about to come out and we were very excited. So I drew this picture of him surfing on a piece of drift wood for fun. And yes I realize it says zurfs instead of surfs, I meant to do that. I could definitely do a much better drawing now but it's all about the sentimental value of this one that I love so much.

Well that's all I got for you this time. Next time will be more animations so be sure to drop by again soon. Hope you all liked this old stuff. Later all!

Long long long long time...

Hi all! Well it has been almost a year since I have posted on here, which is very pathetic. It all came about when my scanner stopped working and my animations wouldn't load onto blogspot. Eventually I just got too lazy, once all the art started piling up, to take the time to put it all up. Anyway the point is that I am finally gonna start putting all that art up on here. I'm going to do it bits at a time though since I feel there is too much for just one or two posts. So I am going to start with my oldest stuff from a year ago now and work up to my most resent stuff. Hopefully you'll easily be able to see how much I have improved since a year ago. I know I can see it. I am going to hopefully update this blog every week or two and I don't think it'll take too long to get through all my stuff at that rate.

For an update on where I am school wise, I am now in my second year of animation at Sheridan college and I am having a great time. I am working harder than I ever have in the past and am producing art that I am very happy with. The work load is insane and I'm having to work long hours all week long to keep on top of it but I am still having fun which is all that really matters, the people in my year help with that. I am drawing more often in my spare time, which I never really did before, and I am experimenting more with different art styles and mediums and really starting to find my place in art with where I want to be. Overall I am finding that things are seeming to just fall into place so far this year for me which is amazing.

So without further babbling by yours truly here's some art... although it is very old art now. But be patient! For the newer better stuff will soon be up for all to see.

Ball & Tail:
So I think this was the next project after the seaweed and page turn. It doesn't really matter the point is it is old and I can do much better now but at the time I was very happy with it. There are still things about it that I like so it's not all bad.
video

Box Fold:
Not much to say about this one... it's you know... a box... folding... ooo exciting. Anyway I'm still actually pretty darn happy with this one. This is the only animation that I have animated straight ahead so far and I can tell you I will never do it again. I did it all in one night so I thought straight ahead would be quicker but it ended up taking much longer as you can see. Most peoples animations ended up been about 60-80 drawings, mine was 148. So yeah... took a little longer than if I had done it with keys, live and learn I suppose. Still though, it's nice and really smooth so I think it still looks good. See if you can make out the background though, woo drafting and math! So yeah I did this animation in one shot, animated it once shot it and handed it in, good times.
video

Combo Walk:
Ooooh the pink panther. I remember him well. This was my first attempt at a walk cycle. It's okay I suppose... drove me crazy at the time when I was animating it. My new ones that I am working on right now are much much better, so stay tuned for those. That's all I got to say about this one...
video

So that's all I got for you this time around. Next post I'll put up some drawings instead of animations for all to enjoy. Hope you all liked this stuff though. Later peoples!

Winter Break and My Title Page

Yay winter break is finally here and along with it a ton of snow and a ton of free time. so i can finally post some of the work that i've done that i haven't had time to post.

I am now halfway through my first year of animation at sheridan college and i am loving it so much. there is so much that i am learning and i am finally starting to really like my art. Although towards the end of this semester i really started slacking and that really screwed me over for these last couple weeks. so next semester i gotta keep more on top of my stuff so i don't have to just have to hand in work so it's on time instead of handing in work that i'm proud of. hopefully you'll be seeing a lot more of this kind of work soon.

but anyway, on to the art...

So this is a title page we had to do for digital tools. we just had to create something that represents us to be shown before our animation videos. so this is what i came up with and the process of how i got there. it's a self portrait of myself at a desk working. The first drawing was in my sketch book and it was only about and inch in size. i then scanned it in and blew it up and printed it off and then redrew it to what you see in the second drawing. then i inked it (third drawing) and scanned it into the computer and used photoshop to colour it (fourth drawing). This was my first real attempt and doing anything in photoshop so i'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. the very final one had my name and class number around it but i figured nobody would care about that haha. anyway i hope you all like this one.

The Wave Action

alright, the art is starting to come in now. so here are my next two animations. the first is a waving bit of seaweed. the second is a flapping book page. i'm over all pretty happy with the seaweed. there are little things i would still like to change but whatever. the book page is okay. the snap still bothers me a bit but i ran out of time to fix it. i'm still happy with it though so that's good. anyway hope you all like 'em.
